Student Development
One of Rice University’s greatest attributes is the level of involvement of its students. This is proudly displayed through the student-managed Information Desk, Coffeehouse, The Hoot, and Willy’s Pub as well as the student-led KTRU Rice Radio, RTV5, and Rice Program Council. Students admitted to Rice already excel over their peers in a variety of ways; however, for many of them their involvement with the Student Center is their first experience with employment or in a leadership or supervisory role.
Our staff is dedicated to the development of the whole student and has proven their ability to develop students as employees and leaders through a multitude of successful programs and events. Through the Student Center’s student development programs we are concurrently fulfilling the University’s mission to keep a Rice education affordable and providing priceless out-of-classroom educational experiences.

The Hoot is the latest addition to the Student Center family. This student-run, late night food option operates two locations out of the West Servery and South Servery, six days a week.
- Rice Coffeehouse
Located in the heart of the Student Center on the main floor, the student-run Coffeehouse has been around since 1990. They continue to serve the best cup of coffee on campus. - Rice Program Council
