Deadline:Â Applications Due September 9th at 11:59pm
Impact Rice is a leadership development program for freshmen and sophomores that kicks off with an exciting weekend-long retreat and aims to foster relationships, facilitate skill building, instill confidence, and empower students to engage with their passions in a significant way so that they can make a change as leaders, both inside and outside the Hedges.
We accomplish this by providing engaging peer-led workshops that emphasize self-knowledge and professional development, forming collaborative environments, recognizing personal passions and values, and developing leadership confidence and vision, in addition to building tight-knit friendships through fun-filled activities and events. Impact provides a diverse network of current and former participants who celebrate each other during successes and support each other through difficulties.
Duncan College, Senior, Biochemistry and Cell Biology Major, Anthropology Minor
During Impact my freshman year, I had the opportunity to be introspective, make new friends, and redefine my Rice experience. I enjoyed coming back for Impact 2018 to staff, and I couldn't be more excited to return to coordinate this year and meet another group of incredible people. Beyond Impact, I can be found doing cancer research, geocaching, and dancing to K-pop music with Rice's BASYK.
Brown College, Senior, Sociology Major, Biochemistry and Cell Biology Minor
Hey folks! I participated in Impact as a sophomore and came back the following year to staff; now I’m beyond thrilled to coordinate Impact 2019. Some of my passions include aspiring to be 6’3” while actually being 5’8”, smiling at dogs, and being the most extra Houston Rockets fan out there (James Harden has fist-bumped me, which is easily the greatest moment of my life - ask me for the video). My main love of life is Taco Bell; it's a lifestyle, not a restaurant. My collection of sauce packets and my knowledge of the dollar menu speak for itself. I can't wait to see the retreat come together and to meet each and every one of you!

Originally from Northern California, I started at Rice in October of 2015. I’m looking forward to being a part of a 4th Impact Retreat and seeing the Coordinator's and Staffer’s hard work come to life! I love to tinker with computers, play ukulele, and I’m on a quest to find the best bbq ribs in the country!
McMurtry College, Senior, Economics Major
After doing Impact my Sophomore year, I have felt consistently humbled by the volume and quality of this campuses leaders. That's why I am SO excited to jump back into it and meet even more fantastic leaders. Catch me in the Baker commons eating scones, running the outer loop, or drinking some tea and curling up with a good book.

After attending Impact as a sophomore last year, I am so happy to, as a staffer, be able to give back to an experience that gave me so much. Currently, I'm a junior at Martel College, but I'm originally from Atlanta, Georgia. I'm majoring in Kinesiology (Health Sciences) and I'm minoring in Global Health Technologies. I'm passionate about so much, including: food (especially yummy ones), dogs (especially fluffy ones), TV shows (especially funny ones), and Impact! I love meeting new people and I especially love learning about their own passions, so I am so excited to meet everyone at the 2019 retreat!
Wiess College, Senior, Computer Science Major
After participating in Impact my freshman year, I'm incredibly excited to return as a staffer my final year at Rice. I'm from Northern California — although I've fully embraced the word 'y'all' since moving to Texas — and you're likely to find me hiking in a national park or drinking coffee with my nose in a book. I can't wait to get to know all of you!
Duncan College, Senior, Health Sciences, Latin American Studies, Spanish, and Portuguese Majors
Having experienced Impact my freshman year, I’m so excited to return as a staffer for my final year at Rice. Impact was a pivotal experience and has influenced and guided all of my semesters and summers since. I look forward to meeting, getting to know, and especially learning from y’all! You can usually find me doing one of my three favorite things: drinking coffee, listening to podcasts, or walking outside. If it’s a really great day (and it often is), you’ll catch me doing all three!
Lovett College, Junior, Political Science Major, Global Health Technologies Minor
Since doing Impact my sophomore year, I've been so excited to come back and staff this year! I'm a junior majoring in political science who wants to go medical school. At Rice, I'm involved in AAUW, University Court, and intramural sports. In my free time, I love to get coffee with friends, play soccer, and eat tacos.
Hanszen College, Junior, Social Policy Analysis Major, Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities Minor
As an Impact participant this past year, I was able to build my self-confidence, meet wonderful people, and understand how to embody leadership in my daily life. I can’t wait to return as a staffer and do all these things again! Outside of Impact, I’m passionate about healthcare equity, dancing, and playing with dogs. You can usually find me tripping on flat surfaces, looking for constellations, or listening to Fetty Wap on repeat. I love meeting new people and can’t wait to get to know all of the Impacters!
Wiess College, Junior, Biochemistry and Cell Biology Major, Medical Humanities Minor
After participating in Impact my freshman year, I'm really looking forward to staffing this upcoming year! I learned a lot about myself and others through participating in Impact, and I have so much more to learn. Outside of Impact, my life motto is ball and bell is life (by bell I'm referring to Taco Bell - my one true love). I can't wait to meet everyone!
Martel College, Senior, Sociology and Political Science Major
I look forward to welcoming all future Impacters into our passionate and empowered community. I participated in Impact my sophomore year and learned A LOT about my working style, passions and how to bring my best self to every interaction I have. Since Impact, I've been able to accomplish a lot after learning to maximize my strengths and channel my passions into real change for my college and the campus. WIth friends I enjoy exploring Houston's food scene, discussing politics and the latest social ills as well as chatting about the latest celebrity gossip or my favorite sports team, the San Antonio Spurs.
