Building Services

At the Student Center, we have a number of different services to make your life easier and more convenient, including the use of advanced audio/visual equipment, a coffee shop, pub, and many more. Take advantage of them!

ATM

The Student Center has a full-service Chase automated teller machine located in the Bookstore Lobby.

Bulletin Boards

Located next to the bookstore, these boards are usually packed with interesting announcements regarding Rice seminars, club events, etc. If you have a flyer to post, check in at the Information Desk to get approval.

Courtesy Phones

Courtesy phones are located throughout the Student Center. A phone booth for visitors is located at the top of Sammy's lobby stairs, just across from the Rice Campus Store, and in Ley main hallway across from Miner Lounge. Please dial the last four digits for on-campus calls or "9" to access an outside local line.

Coffeehouse

Our ever-popular Student Run Business, Rice Coffeehouse, is located on the first floor of the Ley Center. Stop by for coffee, tea, and a delicious pastry or bagel!

Dining Services

The Student Center has several dining options listed below. Check out Sammy’s if you’re interested in a hot meal. The Ambassador Chinese, located across from the Campus Store, serves a variety of Asian fare. The Pub, in the RMC lower level, has a variety of beers for those 21 and over. 

Rice Coffeehouse and the Hoot are our Student Run Businesses in the Rice Memorial Center. The ever-popular Rice Coffeehouse has a variety of coffees, teas, and delicious pastries to eat. The Hoot is our late night option for snacks, such as pizza, ramen, Greek yogurt, etc.

Information Desk

Located at the Ley Side of the Student Center, the Information Desk is staffed by Rice students who are ready to assist you.

Mother's Room

The Student Center has a lactation room with two stations, equipped with microwave, refrigerator, and supplies. To access the room, check in with the Information Desk for the entry code and directions. Baby changing stations are located in the female restrooms next to the Grand Hall, the male restrooms next to the Information Desk, and in the Mother’s Room.

Off-Campus Houston Information

The Office of Student Media oversees the Off-Campus Housing Database. Check out the website for a place to live, entertainment, restaurants, etc.

Phone Charging Stations

Cell phone charging stations are located next to the Information Desk, outside the Bookstore and in the RMC lower level.

Prayer and Meditation Room

A prayer and meditation room is located next to the Rice Chapel and is open to all during Student Center business hours. To honor the integrity of the space please follow the instructions regarding use of the room (inside). Materials provided are available for use in the room. In addition there are meditation screens and cushions on the inside of the Rice Chapel for use when no events are scheduled there.

Recycling

Single stream recycling containers for aluminum, glass, mixed paper and plastics are located throughout the facility.

Student Organization Storage Options

There are several storage areas (all lockable) available for registered student organizations located in the lower level of the RMC. These resources are free of charge, assigned once a year in spring. An email with an application link will be sent to the club president's listserv in the Fall. If you are no longer the president of the club, please forward this email to the new president. Storage is assigned on a first come, first served basis and is limited.

Student Organizations Resource Center and Clubs Office

Located in the RMC lower level this space is open during Student Center hours. Any student may use the space during our operating hours.

Study Spaces

When our regular meeting rooms are not in use, they are open for studying for students. 

If your club or group would like to reserve a space, check out our schedule at http://rooms.rice.edu and sign up for an account to reserve space.

The Hoot

The Hoot, a Student Run Business, is open in the evenings for late night snacks and beverages. It is located in the Ambassador Kitchen space, above the Pub and across from the Rice Campus Store. Check out their website for opening hours and menu.

Wall Outlets

The Brown Garden, Sammy’s, GH Lobby and the Pub Lounge provide electrical outlets for laptops, phones, in addition to the rooms in the building.

Water Fountains

Water bottles may be filled at the fountain alongside of Ambassador Kitchen (opposite the Rice Campus Store).

The Pub

The Pub, located in the RMC lower level, serves soda and snacks, and beer to those 21 and over. When the Pub is not operating, the space is available as additional lounge space.

Wireless Internet

Whether you are a student, a faculty or staff member, or a visitor, wireless connections are widely available on Rice's campus.

  • Rice OWLs - an encrypted network available to all faculty, students and staff
  • Eduroam - an encrypted network available to all faculty, students, staff, and visitors from institutions that participate in the Eduroam project
  • Rice Visitor - an open, unencrypted network that requires web-browser acceptance of Rice University’s Appropriate Use Policy.
