The Club Awards Reception, hosted by the Student Center, is an opportunity for the Rice community to recognize the contributions of dedicated student leaders, organizations and faculty/staff club sponsors.

Individual Student Awards

Student Center Values Award
The Student Center Values Award recognizes a student leader from a club/organization who has exemplified the values of the Student Center: Development, Excellence, and Community.

Above & Beyond Award
The Above & Beyond Award recognizes a student that consistently goes above and beyond for their club, and often goes unrecognized for their efforts. This student often works "behind the scenes," and supports, encourages, and inspires the organization's members or other students.

Emerging Leader Award
The Emerging Leader Award recognizes a freshman or sophomore undergraduate student that has demonstrated exemplary leadership skills within their first year of participation in a registered club. The recipient should be someone whom the club identifies as a potential future leader of their organization, and/or someone they are excited to have continue on within their club.

Executive Board Member of the Year
The Executive Board Member of the Year award recognizes an executive board member (such as a vice president, treasurer, or secretary) who has shown passion and dedication to their club or organization. As a result of this officer's contributions, the club/organization will have been able to fulfill its mission, achieve its goals, and be propelled towards future success.

Student Organization President of the Year
The Student Organization President of the Year award recognizes a president or co-president who significantly advanced the mission and goals of their student organization through challenging and encouraging members to advance new initiatives, projects or programs, develop new skills, and/or prepare for leadership transition. The award recipient should display a commitment to leadership development, membership engagement, innovation, and cross-campus collaboration.

Programming Awards

Program of the Year
The Program of the Year award is given to a registered student organization that contributed to Rice’s campus life through an impactful event on campus.

Collaboration of the Year
The Collaboration of the Year award recognizes a registered undergraduate or graduate student organization that has successfully worked together with another club or department to sponsor or host an event or program that has benefited the Rice community.

Organization Awards

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award
The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award recognizes a registered undergraduate or graduate student organization that has demonstrated excellence in its commitment to advocating on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion through efforts including, but not limited to, programming, collaboration, membership development, and community building and engagement. Recipients of this award should enhance the student experience at Rice and cultivate meaningful relationships on campus.

Member Engagement Award
The Member Engagement Award recognizes a registered undergraduate or graduate student organization that has displayed significant effort in the recruitment, retention and development of its members. Recipients of this award may have demonstrated these efforts through intentional and thoughtful recruitment strategies to reach new members, providing leadership opportunities or skill development for members, establishing a plan to ensure continued organizational growth and sustainability through transition planning, or other related efforts.

Undergraduate Student Organization of the Year
The Undergraduate Student Organization of the Year award recognizes a registered undergraduate student organization that has advanced the mission of Rice University by cultivating a diverse community of learning and discovery that produces leaders across the spectrum of human endeavor. Through their contributions, the recipient of this award has enhanced the undergraduate student experience of their members and the student body at large. The recipient should exemplify Rice’s mission, while providing opportunities for others to become involved and grow as leaders.

Graduate Student Organization of the Year
The Graduate Student Organization of the Year award recognizes a registered graduate student organization that has advanced the mission of Rice University by cultivating a diverse community of learning and discovery that produces leaders across the spectrum of human endeavor. Through their contributions, the recipient of this award has enhanced the graduate student experience of their members and the student body at large. The recipient should exemplify Rice’s mission, while providing opportunities for others to become involved and grow as leaders.

Faculty/Staff Sponsor Awards

Hudspeth Award
The C.M. and Demaris Hudspeth award was established to recognize faculty and staff sponsors who are dedicated supporters of student life and organizations. Each year at least one faculty member and/or one staff member are selected to receive this award to recognize them for their notable contribution to the success of the organization.
